They didn't have the foresight to see this problem mounting when it has existed for months, and taken the necessary steps to prevent the abuse? If the ales were being sold, change the code of the ales being rewarded so they're similar to a preorder item so you can't trade/sell/drop at all. You could toss'em around your account and add drunkard points to your toons as you wish, and not disrupt the economy.
Given that this is supposed to be fun, having players quit on our team isn't exactly fun either. I'd rather the leechers + reward for losing than quitters wasting three other people's time.
As far as Alliance Battles are concerned, if there are only 5 games (apparently) occuring at a time, would it really be that difficult to get 5 devs to periodically check for an AFK/leecher and time them out?
